International Secondary School in Cambodia with Cambridge Curriculum

Our Secondary school follows the Cambridge International curriculum. This allows students to continue to learn in a diverse curriculum that provides choices in what each student sees as important for their future. In both Primary and Secondary education, we embrace the Singapore Mathematics approach (used in over 25 countries) as well as Active Learn, a tool that allows students to learn a range of skills and concepts in English, Mathematics and Science.

Well Rounded Education in a Global Environment

After completing their curriculum, primary school students can directly move up to the secondary education syllabus.

Students in Years 7 to 9 go through the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum which is based on international best practice for schools. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy for all students while engaging them in an active learning journey that fosters their creativity. Students can also explore specialist subjects based on their strengths, interests and ability as they begin to form their college and career aspirations.

In Years 10 and 11, our Upper Secondary education curriculum prepares students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams. It is the world's most popular international qualification and serves to prepare students for the Cambridge International A-Levels. With the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, students can choose subjects that are in line with plans for further education or career goals.

Subjects for the IGCSEs include English, English Literature, Mandarin, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business, Mathematics, Information and Communication Technology, Geography, History and Music.

Students in Year 12 and 13 students prepare to take the Cambridge International A-Levels which is conferred under the General Certificate of Education in the United Kingdom. They can select specialist subjects to pursue at the A-Levels in line with the degree that they wish to pursue in tertiary education and other higher education institutions. This internationally recognised qualification will enable students to apply for global universities. Universities generally will grant offers based on the grades achieved at the International A-Level exams.

Carefully Curated Secondary Education System

Holistically we want our students to be creative, critical and innovative. For this to happen we support our students learning from EYFS through to the end of Secondary school in areas of Health, Physical education and extra-curricular activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

1How much does your international school in Cambodia cost?

You can find the full details on our school fees here!

2How big are the classes at Invictus School?

We maintain small class sizes in our schools, allowing students to connect with teachers and receive the individual attention they need. The maximum class size is 1 teacher to 25 students.

3What Curriculum is used at Invictus Phnom Penh?

At Invictus, we utilise the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for students aged 4 to 5. Our primary years programme uses the Cambridge Primary Curriculum. It is based on the UK national curriculum used by many schools worldwide and has the added benefit of a global mindedness which is key to raising global citizens.

The Cambridge Primary Curriculum is supplemented with Jolly Phonics, a UK phonics-based program. Jolly Phonics uses a fun and child-centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, this multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers alike as they can see their students achieve.

Lastly, our international secondary program makes use of the Cambridge secondary curriculum, an internationally recognised accreditation, which ensures admission to higher education institutions worldwide.

For more information please check out our curriculum page here.

4How is the Cambridge Primary Curriculum different from International Baccalaureate (IB)?

Both the Cambridge Primary Curriculum and the IB are inquiry-based learning curriculums. However, Cambridge Primary Curriculum sets uniform learning goals, while the IB allows each school to decide their own learning goals. This might lead to varying degrees in quality of education. Since the Cambridge primary Curriculum is standardised, parents are able to find the learning goals that are covered online, regardless of the school the child is attending. It is also multidisciplinary rather than transdisciplinary, which means only subjects that naturally fit into a theme are used rather than forcing every subject to be in every unit.

5What is Singapore Mathematics?

Singapore mathematics is a teaching method based on the national mathematics curriculum of Singapore used for Year 1 to Year 6. The term was initially coined in the United States to describe an approach developed initially in Singapore, which teaches students to learn and master fewer mathematical concepts at greater detail and having them learn these concepts using a three-step learning process. The three steps in this process are concrete, pictorial, and abstract. In the first step, students engage in hands-on learning experiences using tangible objects such as chips, dice, or paper clips. This is followed by drawing pictorial representations of mathematical concepts. In the lower grades, we focus mostly on the first two stages. Students then solve mathematical problems abstractly by using numbers and symbols at the higher levels. Singapore Mathematics has been adopted successfully in at least 25 countries.

6How does Invictus compare to other public and private international schools?

What makes us one of the best international schools? Invictus has an excellent track record, offering premium and affordable education to international students in Cambodia. We offer a British international education that provides holistic learning and prepares students for global citizenship. Our tuition fees are relatively lower in comparison with other international private schools, our team of teachers all have experience in the education sector, and they come from more than 20 countries worldwide.

7Does Invictus offer a foreign language programme?

Yes, we offer a bilingual program. Parents can select between English and French, English and Mandarin or English and Khmer. While Cambodian citizens are required to take English and Khmer, they may discuss an option of studying a third language. Lessons are taught at a level comfortable to the children during school hours. With globalisation, it is crucial that we hone the multi-lingual abilities of each child to give them a competitive edge. As demand builds for additional languages we will look into providing these.
